The last two series, Kabutack and Robotack, have a similar conceit: children as the main characters, with cute robot partners that can transform from a super-deformed look to a standard hero silhouette, and the series have generally lower stakes than the other Metal Hero shows. The reason the series ended shortly after was due to Toei kicking off plans to reboot Kamen Rider with Kuuga in 2000.

Yes, they did adapt Metalder and Spielban into VR Troopers, hence why Kaitlin and JB never appear in the same shot as Ryan when transformed, (if you exclude the original footage filmed with the suits for Spielban and Metalder, and the battle grid mode fights, fun fact the battle grid helmets were literally repainted Red Ranger helmets.) Now, for season 2 they used footage from Space Sheriff Shaider for Ryan.

Metal Heroes was my favorite franchise, the series are AMAZING. I'm from Brazil and here it went from Gavan to Solbrain, that is, we were lucky to watch more than half of the franchise in our language and on TV, it was sensational.
Until today I wait for the return of this franchise that I love so much, TOEI Company made some films about the franchise, but for now we don't have anything else, unfortunately.
Curiosity: Kabutack and Robotack are not considered part of the franchise by fans, due to the high comic content, although there are jokes and humor in the series, nothing is THAT BIG like these two, so it is a consensus among fans that they are not part by Metal Heroes. (Although yes... they do.)
If I can make a recommendation for you, also check out the ENDINGS of both Super Sentai and Metal Heros (Kamen Rider only had endings in the old ones and some current ones), they are also really cool.

Fact: Gavan has an Americanized version of himself appearing in Power Ranger Beast Morpher, called Captain Chaku (bruhhh, bad name)
Jiraiya also has an Americanized version, appearing in the movie Power Ranger Super Ninja Steel or something, he is called Sheriff Skyfire.
The main actor of the Shaider series is the son of the founder of Tsuburaya Production, the maker of the Ultraman series
Jiban is really like a Japanese Robocop
In Metalder this is a very psychological series when the main character has to face the fact that he has become a Cyborg.
The Space Sheriff trio of Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider later have a new generation of juniors, deployed since 2012.Americanized

about the later robot heroes being similar to robocop:
Well, Robocops design was "heavily" influenced by Space Sheriff Gavan - Like to the point that, in modern times, laywers would normally start to get involved if this would've happened nowadays. So they pretty much let Japan get away with copieng robocop back so there wouldn't be any legal trouble or issue cropping up.
If you ever wondered why Robocop in the reboot barely sported his iconic silver colouring this is the reason - They wanted to get as far away as possible from Gavans design, just to make sure.
also: Metal heroes tended to go very, very heavy in the story department. Winspector for example was only allowed to air about 20 episodes in Germany because A LOT of the episodes actually got an age rating of 16 and above there. To give you an example, in one episode a kid takes the chief and main mechanic of the team hostage to force them to prove his fathers innocense (who was a formerly convicted bank robber who had gone missing a few weeks prior).
The heroes manage to clean the fathers name, but the true culprits killed him before the heroes could catch them.
Mind you again, this was a show aimed at young children.

A big problem I have with Tokusatsu is that they sometimes try to have their cake and eat it to. Like they try and tell these complex dramatic stories yet they also try and market it to kids. Sometimes it works like in Abaranger and other times it obviously doesn’t because after the excellence that was Timeranger we got the snooze fest that was Gaoranger.

Funny thing is, the darker, more serious seasons tend to do worse in Japan. Case in point: Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. While there was still some goofy, lighthearted fun, there were also times when things go real dark such as: the main trio sacrficing the lives of everyone who got digitized by Messiah to ensure that they can stop the rogue A.I. from conquering the world using the limitless power of Enetron (fictional power source that got localized as "Morph-X" in Beastmorphers and tied to the American canon of "The Morphing Grid"), or literally having to chose to sacrifice the digital avatar (and chance to restore the real individual) who had inspired one of the main trio in order to save the life of another member of the main trio since he was getting turned into a cyborg copy of the BBEG they had sacrificed their parents (oh, did I forget to mention that among the scientists that had been digitized by Messiah was the main trio's parents) in order to stop Messiah.

Fact 2: Gavan, Sharivan and Shaider trilogy of Uchu Keiji (Space Sheriff) series
The 3 series are Winspector, Solbrain and Exceedraft of the Rescue Police series
The 2 series are Juukou B-Fighters and B-Fighter Kabuto (2 sets were adapted into Big Bad Beetleborg) of the B-Fighter series.
The last 2 series, B-Robo Kabutack and Tetsuwan Tantei Robotack, are for children's audience, so the style is "cartoon".
In Rescue Police 3, there is a good point, in
-In Winspector there is only 1 human warrior and 2 robot warriors
-In the Solbrain set, there are 2 human warriors and only 1 cyborg warrior
In Exceedraft, all 3 warriors are human. Thereby seeing the increase in the number of human members

I agreed with the blue beetle point. I really hope that the film works. the metal heroes had more freedom of design than KR and SS had
I love how you can FEEL the different eras
first there's the heroes of justice, which all of those old and self contained "japanese guy with superhero fights evil", ultraman, then Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Metal Heroes, then Kamen Rider again, and GARO, but that's a bit controversial and all things considered, closer to that other show, Knights of Tir-na-nog...
Gavan's lightsaber has actually received one of those live-sized multifunction replica recently, as the B-fighter/beeltleborg gun did
once I've seen Jiraia being depicted as "the japanese version of Habram Lincoln descendant suiting up as his grandfather to fight crime in modern times" which isn't correct, but it isn't really wrong either...
gavan actually had an episode in PR beast morpher (and, of course, GoBusters), it was when toei was trying to relauch older shows by haveing 'soft reboot/next generation" films

RIP Metal Heroes... Still dead... T_T
Don't know why there's hasn't been a major revival attempt, mostly just cameos in sentai or kamen rider.

The overreliance on remakes and sequels is stifling the emergence of fresh and original content in Hollywood.

Because there are no such things as 'original ideas' anymore within entertainment. And that's not really a problem, the real problem is studios being too lazy to do anything about it.

I'm a Kamen Rider fan, and I will lay my life on the kine to defend that Kamen Rider is the best Tokusatsu subgenre.
However... Metal Heroes' suit designs are crisps as fck. even the earliest designs are slaps harder than todays' standards.

Metal Heroes effectively was Kamen Rider. It basically aired during the Hiatus Rider was on in the early 80s to 2000 minus two of years Kamen Rider Black (and even aired during Metalder and Jiraya when Metal Heroes had abandoned the Space Sheriff style designs they'd been using for 5 years) and winded down just around the time Rider returned with Kuuga. In fact modern Heisei and Reiwa Riderr takes way more cues from Metal Heroes than the Showa Riders that came before it.
